Exercise and relaxation:
If you have been in pain for a while its common to drop back on your usual levels of physical activity for fear of making the pain worse or causing a relapse. Physical activity can restore movement, improve strength and stamina as well as being a way of getting out and about and helping with sleep. Getting back to your favourite activities and gradually exercising more is one way our team of physiotherapists can help. |
Psychology:
Humans have the capacity to dwell on the past and to try and predict things that might happen in the future. This is especially true when you’ve been in pain for a while. Often these thoughts and feelings become a cycle that aren’t helpful to your recovery. Evidence suggests that addressing these thought patterns and concerns can be helpful. Reducing anxiety and stress can reduce the overall impact of pain on your daily life. Our team of psychologists and counsellor are very familiar with the emotional impact of pain, and are able to help you with becoming more aware of these factors and can start the process of addressing them. |
Social:
Building a good support network if you’ve been out of action or off work can be a challenge. Changing focus to increasing your self-confidence, different routines and gathering a network of positive people in your life can make a big difference, especially if you are trying to re-establish a new normal or considering a change of direction. Occupational therapists are a great resource, and our OT team have lots of experience in these areas if you need guidance. |
Medical and Overall Wellness:
You may have tried a number of different medicines already to help manage pain. Our expert pain physicians and doctors can talk through the best options for you, or support you whilst you try to reduce. Medicines can be especially helpful for certain types of pain but they often need to be used alongside other strategies that use your body’s own natural resources as well. Understanding about what is driving your pain, as well as a focus on overall well-being is at the core of pain self-management. Our team also includes experienced dietitians, pelvic health physiotherapists, breathing & stress management physiotherapy, acupuncture and osteopaths to support you with managing your recovery in a holistic way. |
